Nelson appointed as 1st Silicon CEO

KUALA LUMPUR: 1st Silicon (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd announced that the company's has appointed Dr W. John Nelson as its new chief executive officer (CEO).

In a statement yesterday, it said Nelson, who joined the company as chief operating officer in May this year, has been acting CEO since September, succeeding Claudio G. Loddo. 1st Silicon's chairman Datuk Fong Joo Chung said with the appointment, the company now hoped to strengthen its operational activities and expand its customer base around the world.

From 1999 until joining the company, Nelson was chief operating officer of General Semiconductor, where he was responsible for day-to-day operations including worldwide manufacturing, sales, marketing and new-product development.

For seven years between 1990 and 1999, Nelson was based in Taipei, and served in several executive positions, including as President of Genera Semiconductor's Asia- Pacific operation. Prior to leading General Semiconductor Taiwan's divestiture from General Instrument, Nelson was president of General Instrument, Taiwan, and he also served as vice-president and general manager of General Instrument's power semiconductor division.-Bernama
