KUCHING: The 'Sarawak Information and
Communications Technology (ICT) Expo 2003' will be held at the Civic
Centre here from January 17 to 19, to showcase the latest development in
e-business and its applications.
Organised by the ICT Unit of the Chief Minister's Department in collaboration with the Multimedia Development Corporation, the Expo with the theme 'ICT - Catalyst for Development', is targeted at especially technopreneurs, academician, politicians assemblymen, entrepreneurs and students.
"The Expo will highlight various exhibitors from the Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC) Flagship Applications which include Smart Schools, Telehealth, Electronic Government, Smart Card, Software Developers and Service Providers," said the event manager, Faradale Media (M) Sdn Bhd in a press statement yesterday.
Other exhibitors from within and outside the state were also expected to participate, it added.
The Expo would also provide an avenue for the state government to expose players in the industry to the latest technology in ICT application as well as to create greater awareness on the flagship applications of the MSC, the world's most comprehensive ICT development project, it said.
"Much more than a technology park, the corridor is the vehicle for transforming the social and economic landscape of Malaysia. The MSC vision is to create the ideal multimedia environment for businesses to thrive in and transform Malaysia into a knowledge society by 2020," the statement said adding that the MSC offered a Malaysian initiatives for the Information Age.
To complement the Exposition, a MSC Nationwide Conference 2003 will also be held on January 16 at the Crowne Plaza Riverside here for about 300 persons especially Small and Medium entrepreneurs as ICT is gaining importance in the development of the Small and Medium Industries (SMIs).
The Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud is expected to grace the opening ceremonies of both conferences and expositions. Besides freebies and gifts from the exhibitors, visitors would get the chance to win exciting prizes at the show, it added.
