SEREMBAN: Contractors who fail to complete the construction of school computer labs, phase one, will be blacklisted and no projects will be awarded in the future, Education Ministry Parliamentary Secretary Datuk Mahadzir Mohd Khir said yesterday.

He said the stern action was needed to ensure the construction of other school facilities are not delayed.

"The Education Ministry will release these contractors because we do not want to spend any more money. But in the future we will ensure they are not given any contracts," he told reporters after launching the "Jom ke sekolah" programme and the presentation of the sign board of common offences by students at the Sekolah Kebangsaan Taman Paroi Jaya, near here.

He was commenting on the phase one projects that had not been completed although they were extended three times.  However, the contractors involved would be asked to explain their problems soon.

"Contractors who took the projects must complete it. The ministry will monitor their development and give them a date to complete before any action is taken," he added.

Earlier, in his speech, Mahadzir urged parents to cooperate with school authorities to tackle truancy among students.  This responsibility, he added, should not be surrendered solely to the teachers as discipline begins at home.
